Tips for Organizing Legos
One popular area to get organized? Legos! Your kids' Lego collection might need a little extra attention, especially after the holidays. I have two solid options for you today:
1. Elfa Desk
If your child needs a space to build Lego sets in addition to storing free bricks, I recommend getting an elfa desk from the Container Store. We have two of these in our house, and I've built several for clients because they offer a large worktop along with mesh drawers that store a lot of Lego bricks. These will run you about $436 if they aren't on sale, but elfa is often on sale! You will be surprised at how many bricks the drawers will store, and once upon a time, I attempted to color-coordinate every drawer. I quickly realized we have way too many legos to pull off such a feat.
I love to create one shallow drawer for mini-figures and at least one or two more drawers for broken/partially completed sets.
When it comes to displaying the finished sets, you can easily get a simple melamine shelf with wall brackets from a store like Lowe's and install it above your elfa desk. Voila!
2. Wall-mounted Elfa System
If you are in need of more shelves, more drawers, and you want a solid wall-mounted system, then I suggest you have a wall-mounted elfa system designed at the container store.
This system is flexible, as you can add more shelves or drawers over time. i staged my home office system to show what i envision for a lego station, and it is 7.5 feet wide. A system like this will run you about $1,600 for the number of shelves, drawers, and sizes shown here.
