Staying Organized When Hosting For The Holidays

If you are hosting for the holidays, remember that lists rule! You must have a plan and start early. Also, it will make your life much easier if you are able to delegate and ask for help. Tidy up by decluttering a few key areas:

  1. Dining Room:

  • pull out all of your table linens, centerpieces, napkin holders. Get rid of anything that’s broken, or simply not your style anymore. Make a list of what you need to buy or borrow for the big day.

  • entertainment platters, bowls, etc—make sure you have a ZONE for these, even if they aren’t in your prime real estate (kitchen). Added bonus if you can create simple labels ahead of time, for which food items will be going into which dishes.

  • maybe this is the time to dust off your china and crystal and actually use it! No need to buy new if you have items that will work.

2. Kitchen:

Your kitchen will be in heavy use and totally messy anyway! Just be sure to clear your counters the best you can for extra food prep room (maybe stash your toaster and various water bottles elsewhere for a day)

3. Refrigerator:

  • You must create a solid leftover zone!

  • You could even ask guests to bring their own tupperware to fill and leave with yummy leftovers

  • It would be a good time to pull everything out of your fridge. Check expiration dates, toss anything that needs to go. Wipe it all down. Create room for leftovers. BE RUTHLESS with what stays and what goes.
